Non-surgical spinal disc decompression is a non-invasive treatment for acute and chronic spinal pain associated with herniated, ruptured, bulging or degenerative discs and sciatic leg pain or spinal stenosis associated with these conditions. It is safe and effective without the normal risks associated with invasive procedures such as injections, anesthesia or surgery. Spinal decompression works through a series of 15 one minute alternating decompression (using a logarithmic decompression curve) and relaxation cycles with a total treatment time of 30 minutes. During the decompression phase the pressure in the disc is reduced and a vacuum type of affect is produced on the nucleus pulposis. At the same time nutrition is diffused into the disc allowing the annulus fibrosis to heal. Very rarely is the nerve root compressed from the herniated disc and usually the back and leg pain associated with these conditions is a result of irritation to the nerve root sleeve by the inflammatory chemicals that are released as a result of inflammation in the disc.
VAX-D treatment is the gold standard for this type of treatment and is extremely affective in increasing nutrition to the disc and allowing it to heal on its own. The spinal decompression industry today is so full of misinformation, unsubstantiated claims and marketing hype so as to make it extremely difficult for the physician let alone the average person to determine which table offers true decompression. All of them use the research done on VAX-D equipment to validate their claims. But the fact is that in spite of the rapid growth of the decompression industry VAX-D is the only device shown to decompress the disc non-surgically (Ramos G., Martin W. Journal of Neurosurgery) and a search of the medical literature reveals there are no studies published in peer-reviewed medical journals on other devices. VAX-D is the only medical device that delivers treatment with the patented logarithmic decompression curve!

How long does it take to start feeling better?

The majority of patients notice an improvement in their symptoms rather quickly within only a few sessions. Patients with leg pain will see the pain in their leg start to subside until the pain becomes localized to the back (centralization). This also happens relatively soon after beginning the treatment. This allows the patient to perform their normal activities of daily living or demands of employment with less pain almost immediately.

There is a strengthening phase to the treatment once the Vax-D treatment is complete which may take up to 12 weeks depending on how week the spinal musculature is. Once the lower extremity pain is centralized we begin the rehabilitation process limiting the range of motion to avoid flexion for th first 4 weeks. After the first 4 weeks of the rehab we are able to test the patients strength and compare their strength to other men or women their age or weight. This tells us how many weeks of rehab before they will be at their age and weight matched norms. In answer to the bone loss question. There is no effect on bone loss and in fact research done on the equipment we use for rehab (MedX) showed an increase in bone density for patients following a 12 week rehabilitation program.
